Spartanburg, S.C. – Senior Viktor Selander advanced to the championship match in both singles and doubles to highlight competition for USC Upstate Saturday afternoon on the second day of the USC Upstate Fall Classic.
Selander posted a 2-0 record in the singles green draw, opening with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Reid Dillon of UNC Asheville. He would go on to best third-seeded Manuel Castellanos of Kennesaw State 6-1, 6-1 to setup a championship match with top-seeded Daniel Kripak of UNC Asheville.
In doubles action, Selander and teammate Ramon Simonetti turned in a 6-0 victory over Thomas Orestis-Panoulas and John Schubel of UNC Asheville in the white draw. Simonetti and Selander are scheduled to face Ben Kelly and Ryan Miller of Presbyterian Sunday at 10 a.m.
Freshman Felix Ewers registered back-to-back wins in the singles black back draw to advance to Sunday's final match with Will Baird of Presbyterian. Ewers started the day with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Evan Holvoet of Kennesaw State before earning a 6-4, 6-1 win over Diego Manzanas of Presbyterian in the following match.
Ewers and Matt Bennion posted a 6-3 win over Dillon and Will Goldberg of UNC Asheville in the doubles green back draw to advance into the finals. The Upstate duo will take on Lukas Luckemeier and Joel Roberts Sunday at 10 a.m.
