Wilmington, N.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis dropped a 7-0 decision at UNC Wilmington Friday afternoon from the UNCW Tennis Complex.
UNC Wilmington won the doubles point by posting victories at all three positions, beginning with a 6-0 win by Miller Hales and Alyssa Ritchie at No. 2 over Nona Ruppert and Nina Roell. Christin Kaupper and Alix Theodossiou clinched the point for the Seahawks at No. 3 following a 6-2 victory over Sharlee Deshmukh and Sarah Vande Berg.
Hamilton Lovett put UNC Wilmington ahead 2-0 when she defeated Deshmukh 6-2, 6-0 from the No. 5 singles position. Christine Kharkevitch extended the lead to 3-0 following her 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 3 over Anna Zoske.
The Seahawks won the match and improved to 2-0 after Theodossiou bested Roell 6-0, 6-2 from the No. 4 position.
Upstate returns to the court Saturday at noon when the Spartans head to Conway, S.C., to face Coastal Carolina.
