Conway, S.C. – Coastal Carolina won the first five points and went on to post a 6-1 victory over the USC Upstate women's tennis team Saturday afternoon from the Coastal Carolina Tennis Complex.
The Chanticleer duo of Sara Bondar and Honami Yazawa turned in a 6-1 win over Sarah Vande Berg and Nina Roell from the No. 2 doubles position to give Coastal Carolina the early advantage. Natalie Wall and Cari Berry clinched the point for Coastal Carolina thereafter with a 6-3 victory over Anna Zoske and Sharlee Deshmukh at No. 3.
Romane Delay put Coastal Carolina ahead 2-0 after Zoske was unable to finish her singles match due to an injury sustained during play. Bondar pushed the lead to 3-0 after she defeated Vande Berg 6-1, 6-1 from No. 6, and Mila Majtan secured the victory for the Chants with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Deshmukh at No. 5.
Upstate senior Isabel von Stryk secured her first win of the season later in the match when she downed Libby Scott 1-6, 7-6, 10-6 from the No. 1 position.
The Spartans return to the court Feb. 12 when Upstate travels to Clinton, S.C., to take on Presbyterian.
