Greensboro, N.C. – Elon secured its third straight victory following a 6-1 win over the USC Upstate women's tennis team Friday from the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
Elon had an early advantage in its pursuit of the doubles point when it was awarded a forfeit victory at No. 3. The Phoenix duo of Taylor Casey and Erica Braschi clinched the point at No. 2 following their 8-3 win over Anna Zoske and Nina Roell.
Senior Isabel von Stryk and freshman Nona Ruppert picked up a victory at No. 1 when they bested Olivia Lucas and Kirsten Ward 7-6.
Elon earned a second point at No. 6 singles and took a 2-0 lead due to a forfeit victory awarded to Casey. Due to an abbreviated roster following a rash of injuries, USC Upstate was unable to compete at No. 3 doubles or No. 6 singles.
Barbara Lazarova put Elon ahead 3-0 after turning in a 6-1, 6-1, singles win over Zoske at No. 3, while Kamilla Beisenova clinched the win for the Phoenix after she posted a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Sharlee Deshmukh at No. 5.
Von Stryk capped the match by winning her fourth consecutive match following a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Ward at the No. 1 position.
Upstate returns to action Feb. 27 when the Spartans host Charlotte from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex at 2 p.m.
