Von Stryk Wins Ninth Straight in Loss to Lamar

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 setback to Lamar Tuesday in non-conference action from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.

Anna Spengler and Andrea Ivanovic posted an 8-1 victory over Nina Roell and Sharlee Deshmukh at No. 2 doubles before Katya Lapayeva and Carolina Maso clinched the point following an 8-4 win over Isabel von Stryk and Nona Ruppert at No. 1.

Stephanie Marchena put the Lady Cardinals ahead 2-0 after she downed Deshmukh 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5, while Hanna Elfving increased the lead to 3-0 following a 6-2, 7-6 win over Roell at No. 4.

Ivanovic sealed the victory by winning the fourth point of the match with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Anna Zoske at No. 3.

Von Stryk turned in her ninth straight victory later in the match when she downed Lapayeva 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1.

Upstate returns to action Thursday at 2 p.m. when the Spartans open A-Sun play against Stetson from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
