Spartans Open A-Sun Play with Loss to Stetson

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team was defeated 6-0 by Stetson Friday in the Atlantic Sun Conference opener from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.

Alizee Michaud and Ashley Dean posted an 8-1 win over Nina Roell and Sharlee Deshmukh in the opening doubles match from the No. 2 position. Isabelle Fernandez and Eveline Lepinay clinched the point for the Hatters following an 8-7 win over Isabel von Stryk and Nona Ruppert at No. 1.

Lepinay put the Hatters ahead 2-0 when she defeated Sarah Vande Berg 6-1, 6-1 from the No. 6 singles position. Carolina Meregalli gave Stetson a 3-0 advantage with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Deshmukh at No. 5, and Dean sealed the match following her 6-2, 6-3 win over Roell at No. 4.

Upstate returns to action Saturday at 10 a.m. when the Spartans host Florida Gulf Coast from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
