No. 63 Tulane Too Much for Upstate

New Orleans, La. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team suffered a 7-0 setback at No. 63 Tulane Sunday from the City Park Pepsi Center.

Constantin Schmitz and Sebastian Ray gave Tulane the early advantage in doubles play when they turned in a 6-0 victory over Spartan freshmen Matt Bennion and Felix Ewers at No. 2. The Green Wave duo of Alex Van Cott and Ian Van Cott clinched the point and put Tulane ahead 1-0 following their 6-0 win over Ignacio Garrido and Viktor Selander at No. 3.

Schmitz put Tulane ahead 2-0 after he defeated Selander 6-2, 6-1 from the No. 2 singles position. Ian Von Cott registered a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Bennion at No. 6 to put the Green Wave ahead 3-0, and 14th-ranked Dominik Koepfer clinched the victory after he bested Ramon Simonetti 6-3, 6-2 at No. 1.

Upstate returns to action Monday at 2 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Thibodaux, La., to face Nicholls State.
