Hilton Head Island, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team secured its first win of the season in style by winning every set on its way to a 7-0 victory over Slippery Rock on Sunday.
Senior Isabel von Stryk and freshman Nona Ruppert posted an 8-2 doubles victory over Carla Moracho and Nina Barbano at No. 1, while Anna Zoske and Sharlee Deshmukh went on to post an 8-4 win over Stephanie Fortier and Ana Petrovic at No. 2.
Nina Roell and Sarah Vande Berg completed the sweep following their 8-0 victory over Courtney Gallagher and Anna Carpenter at No. 3.
Von Stryk secured her sixth straight singles victory when she bested Moracho 6-1, 6-4 at No. 1. Ruppert claimed her second consecutive win following a 6-2, 6-1 win over Barbano at No. 2.
Zoske defeated Petrovic 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3, while Roell posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Fortier at No. 4. Deshmukh won her first match of the season after knocking off Gallagher 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5, and Vande Berg captured a 6-1, 6-1 win over Emily Munson at No. 6.
Upstate returns to the court Monday at 6 p.m. when the Spartans face Baldwin Wallace University.
