Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team turned in a 5-2 victory over Kennesaw State Saturday on Senior Day from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex to clinch the No. 3 seed in the A-Sun Championships.

The Spartans, who earned their highest seed since joining the conference, will face either Lipscomb or Northern Kentucky on Friday. The Spartans shutout both the Bisons and the Norse earlier this season on the road.

Viktor Selander and Ignacio Garrido, however, returned Upstate to its winning ways and clinched the point in the process with an 8-6 win over Simon Pritchard and Jorge Wilton at No. 2.

Garrido then won his ninth straight singles match and gave Upstate a 2-0 lead when he downed Castellanos 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4, but Wilton cut the lead in half after he bested Ewers 6-3, 6-3 at No. 6.

Yates regained a two-point lead for the Spartans with his 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jake Bouchillon at No. 3, but the Owls once again pulled to within one after Valencia posted a 7-6, 6-2 win over Selander at No. 2.

Dharni responded for Upstate by defeating David Durham 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 at No. 5 to clinch the match and help the Spartans improve to 4-2 in league play. Simonetti closed the match with a 6-3, 5-7, 7-5 win over Pritchard at No. 1.
