Spartans Fall to North Florida in A-Sun Semifinals

Jacksonville, Fla. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team was defeated 4-1 by North Florida on Sunday in the semifinals of the A-Sun Championships from the UNF Tennis Complex.

North Florida built a 1-0 lead when the Ospreys claimed the doubles point by winning matches at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions. Norbert Nemcsek and Julian Bradley turned in an 8-3 win over Ignacio Garrido and Viktor Selander at No. 2 before Lasse Muscheites and Zach Goldberg clinched the point with an 8-2 win at No. 1 over Ramon Simonetti and Jamie Yates.

Alberto De Meo put North Florida ahead 2-0 when he defeated Felix Ewers 6-3, 6-2 from the No. 6 singles position, and Yannick Zuern upped the advantage to 3-0 following his 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Selander at No. 2.

Yates captured the first Upstate point and brought the Spartans within two after he downed Bradley 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 3, but Muscheites returned North Florida to its winning ways with a 6-7 (1-7), 6-4, 6-3 victory over Garrido at No. 4 to secure a berth in the finals for the Ospreys.
