Nashville, Tenn. – Logan Paynter scored two second-half goals to lift the Lipscomb Bisons to a 2-1 victory over the USC Upstate men's soccer team Saturday evening during ASUN action from the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.
Upstate falls to 3-7 on the season and 1-2 in conference play, while Lipscomb improves 6-5-1 overall and 2-2 in league play.
STATS OF THE MATCH
- The Bisons held a 14-7 advantage in shots and held an 8-3 lead in attempts on-goal.
- Joel Bunting led the Spartans offensively with three shots, including two on-goal, while Calon Minors added two.
- Paynter had four shots for Lipscomb and was one of three players to take two shots on-goal each.
- Davis Smith and Santiago Restrepo combined for six saves, with Smith tying his career-high of four saves and Restrepo added two.
- Micah Bledsoe finished with two saves for the Bisons.
UPSTATE GOALS
- Bunting scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season in the 16th minute to give Upstate the lead. The freshman received a through ball just outside the 18-yard box past two Lipscomb defenders, leaving him with a one-on-one chance. Bunting battled one defender and scored right side past Bledsoe from 15-yards out. (USC Upstate 1, Lipscomb 0)
LIPSCOMB GOALS
- Paynter netted his first goal of the game in the 65th minute off a Bison corner kick near side. Ivan Sakou and Ivan Alvarado were credited with the assist after the ball was flicked inside the six-yard box where Paynter scored from in front of the net. (USC Upstate 1, Lipscomb 1)
- Paynter recorded the game-winner with his second goal in the 89th minute as Alvarado also earned his second assist. Alvarado gained possession of the ball at the top of the 18-yard box and lofted his pass over the Spartan defense to Paynter. Paynter put his strike by Restrepo and into the left side of the net.
