Spartans Fall at Western Carolina

– The Western Carolina women's tennis team claimed five of six singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over USC Upstate on Friday afternoon at the Catamount Athletic Complex.

Western Carolina improves to 5-2 while Upstate falls to 0-7.

Vale Zarama won both of her matches on the afternoon. Zarama defeated Elizabeth Ansari 7-5, 6-4 at the number four singles position and teamed up with Carol Sigaki for a 6-4 victory over Megan McLinden and Savannah Taranto at number two doubles.

Filippa Ericson dropped a marathon match at number two singles, falling to McLinden 2-6, 7-5, 14-12.

Upstate returns to action on Saturday, traveling to UNCG for a 1 p.m. start.
