Upstate Edged 4-3 at Wofford

Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to the Wofford Terriers Thursday afternoon in non-conference action at Reeves Tennis Center.

Upstate falls to 1-1 on the season while Wofford improves to 3-1 overall.

The Spartans began the day by earning a victory in the number one doubles match as the duo of Ignacio Garrido and Matt Bennion defeated Haris Poric and Trevor Gotkowski 7-5. The Terriers would capture the doubles point after winning the number two and three matches.

Upstate fell behind 2-0 to start singles action, but cut its deficit to one after Bennion stayed undefeated for the afternoon as he topped Gotkowski at number three singles in a 6-0, 6-3 straight set win. Rajanvir Dharni evened the contest two matches later when he won his number six matchup versus Parks Schoen 6-0, 6-3. Jamie Yates remained undefeated on the season after his 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Parks Thompson in the number four singles match.

The Spartans open their home season on Saturday afternoon as they host Winthrop at 2 p.m. from the USC Upstate Tennis Complex.
