Gardner-Webb Holds off Women's Tennis

Boiling Springs, N.C.
– The Gardner-Webb women's tennis team won the final three singles matches in a 5-2 victory over USC Upstate in non-conference action on Friday afternoon at the GWU Tennis Courts.

Gardner-Webb improves to 1-2 while Upstate drops to 0-3.

Upstate claimed the doubles point after winning the top two doubles positions. After Gardner-Webb won the third doubles match, Anna Zoske and Filippa Ericson defeated Sandra Bolstad and Laura Fermosel 6-2 at the number one position. Carol Sigaki and Vale Zarama clinched the point for the Spartans with a 7-5 win over Roxia Sacko and Mary Walker Mixon.

Gardner-Webb won the fifth and sixth singles courts in straight sets before Ericson tied the match at 2 with her second win of the afternoon at number two singles, a 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Sarah Rieckmann. Bolstad gave the hosts a 3-2 lead following a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Zarama at the number three position before Catherine White clinched the match with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the number four position.

The Spartans return to action tomorrow at Noon at Davidson.
