Cookeville, Tenn. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles Thursday afternoon in non-conference action from Tech Tennis Courts.
Upstate falls to 3-9 on the season while Tennessee Tech improves to 4-4 overall.
The Golden Eagles went ahead 1-0 after capturing the doubles point following wins at the number one and three matches. In the number two contest, Lenhard Haupt and Ignacio Garrido were leading Eduardo Mena and Marcos Bernardes 6-5 when the match was halted.
In singles play, Garrido won his number five match over Jorge Alfonzo in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. The Spartans took two other matches into three sets at the number two and four positions. Ankush Arora fell 2-6, 6-2, 4-6 in the number two match against Guille Nicolas, while Jamie Yates dropped a 5-7, 6-2, 5-10 decision to Bernardes at number four.
Carlos Tajes won the match for Tennessee Tech as he topped Rajanvir Dharni 6-2, 6-4.
Upstate begins A-Sun play at home Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. against North Florida.
