Furman Downs Upstate 6-1

Greenville, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision against the Furman Paladins on the road Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action from Mickel Tennis Center.

Upstate falls to 2-7 on the season while Furman improves to 4-6 overall.

The Paladins earned the first point of the day after winning all three doubles matches. Upstate fell in two of the matchups by identical 7-5 scores at both number one and two doubles. In the number one doubles match, Ramon Simonetti and Ankush Arora fell to Ben Horst and Matt Browne. Lenhard Haupt and Ignacio Garrido, playing at number two doubles, were also defeated by a 7-5 score versus Cameron Green and Alex Steryous.

The Spartans captured one win in singles play while two other matches went to a second set tiebreaker. Arora put Upstate on the board at number two singles as he defeated Browne in three sets 6-0, 4-6, 6-4. Simonetti took Adam Steryous into a tiebreaker at number one singles but fell 6-0, 7-6 (7-5). Garrido also saw his number four singles match head to a tiebreaker against Hort, dropping a 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) decision.

The Spartans remain on the road Friday afternoon as they travel to Clemson to take on the Tigers at 5 p.m. from Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
