Clemson, S.C. – The Clemson Tigers won four singles matches Friday evening as they defeated the USC Upstate men's tennis team 4-1 in non-conference action from Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
Upstate falls to 2-8 on the season while Clemson improves to 9-7 overall.
The Spartans struck first in the match by capturing the doubles point following wins at number two and three. Upstate dropped the first double match before winning the next two starting at the number two position as Lenhard Haupt and Ignacio Garrido defeated Arturo Pinazo and Austin Ansari 6-4. Rajanvir Dharni and Matt Bennion won the doubles point for the Spartans at the number three spot after the duo also topped Christian Harris and Brent Lett by a 6-4 score.
The Tigers earned points at the number one, two, three and five positions to take the 4-1 victory. Clemson won the match when Harris defeated Garrido in the number five spot 6-4, 6-4. Yates was leading his number four match over Robert Dudley 6-4, 4-4 before play was halted.
Upstate travels to Chattanooga, Tenn. on Tuesday, Mar. 8 for a 2 p.m. match against Chattanooga.
