Spartanburg, S.C. - The USC Upstate women's tennis team lost its 2017 season-opener 4-3 to Wofford on Thursday afternoon at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex. 

Wofford improves to 1-0 while Upstate falls to 0-1. 

The Terriers clinched the doubles point after claiming 6-1 wins on the number two and number three doubles courts, and would sweep all three doubles matches. 

Filippa Ericson claimed the top singles match as she was a 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 winner over Catherine Martin. Carol Sigaki defeated Cassidy Hicks 6-3, 7-5 at number two singles, while Taylor Dodd won a hard-fought match at number five singles, 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 over Taylor Carlson. The teams split the singles matches as Wofford won the matches on the third, fourth and sixth courts. 

Upstate hits the road next weekend for a pair of matches. The Spartans will face College of Charleston at 2 p.m. on Friday before taking on Coastal Carolina at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
