Shiflet Records Career-High in Loss at Campbell

Buies Creek, N.C. – Diamon Shiflet scored a career-high 10 points but it wasn't enough for the USC Upstate women's basketball team as the Spartans lost 69-49 at Campbell on Sunday.

Campbell improves to 2-1 while Upstate drops to 0-4.

A LOOK AT THE NUMBERS

  • Shiflet's 10-point output is the first time that the freshman has finished in double figures.  She finished 4-for-7 from the field and 1-for-2 in both 3-point and free throw attempts.
  • Rylie Parkhurst grabbed a team-best five rebounds.
  • Caroline Bowns and Summer Price each scored 14 points to lead Campbell.
  • Taya Bolden grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for the Fighting Camels.
  • Campbell outrebounded Upstate 42-30.

FIRST QUARTER BREAKDOWN

  • A'Lexxus Davis got the Spartans on the board with a layup 14 seconds into the game.
  • Campbell answered with an 8-0 run capped by a Bowns 3-pointer with 6:25 remaining in the period.
  • Upstate cut the Campbell lead to two, 10-8, following a Shiflet 3-pointer with just over four minutes left.
  • Campbell led 16-12 at the end of the frame.

SECOND QUARTER BREAKDOWN

  • A Riley Popplewell jumper brought Upstate back within two, 16-14.
  • The Camels answered with a 14-2 run to lead 30-16 with 4:24 left.
  • Michaela Gibbons sank one of two free throw attempts with 11 seconds remaining to send the Spartans into halftime down 36-25.

THIRD QUARTER BREAKDOWN

  • A Price 3-pointer followed by a Kyra Davis layup gave Campbell a 43-26 edge with 7:48 left.
  • Tamera Thorpe brought the Spartans to within 11, 43-32, with 5:55 to go.
  • Price's jumper with three seconds left in the frame gave Campbell a 52-38 lead heading into the final quarter.

FOURTH QUARTER BREAKDOWN

  • Camilla Kilinc brought Upstate to within 12, 56-44, with 6:54 left.
  • Campbell answered with a 9-0 run.
  • Alysha Allison's free throws with 13 seconds left gave Campbell a 22-point lead, 69-47, its largest of the game.
  • Shiflet's jumper with seven seconds left was the final basket of the contest.
