Arora Leads Upstate at Seahawk Fall Invite to Close out Fall Season

Wilmington, N.C. – Ankush Arora recorded a total of four victories this past weekend to lead the USC Upstate men's tennis team as the Spartans closed out their fall season at the Seahawk Fall Invite hosted by UNC Wilmington at UNCW Courts.

In total, Upstate tallied 13 victories against UNC Wilmington, Georgia Southern, Clemson and Presbyterian College. The Spartans captured 11 singles matches and two doubles contests.

Arora led Upstate with four victories with three coming in singles play and one in doubles. Felix Ewers added three wins, while Ignacio Garrido, Francisco Neto and Luka Eble each had two.

The Spartans started the weekend on Friday winning three times competing in both singles and doubles matches. Arora and Garrido started the day off by winning their doubles match against Agustin Savarino and Michael Copeland of UNC Wilmington 6-4. Arora added to his win total teaming up with Ewers in singles play to earn wins against Clemson and Georgia Southern. Ewers defeated Carlos Kelaidis of Clemson in straight sets 6-4, 6-4 while Arora topped JC Alcala of Georgia Southern 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.

On Saturday, Upstate won six out of seven singles matches versus Presbyterian College. Arora and Samuel Schiano both won their matches in straight sets while Ewers, Neto, Eble and Garrido recorded three-set victories. Arora won 6-4, 6-4 over Alejandro Bejar and Schiano topped Elias Svensson 6-4, 6-2. Ewers earned a 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-2 victory against Alexander Lykou, Garrido knocked off Daniel Stenger 2-6, 7-6(4), 6-1, Neto garnered a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Jaime Castillo Lopez and Eble won 6-0, 1-6, 6-4 against Luis Conde.

The Spartans closed out play on Sunday with three singles victories and one doubles triumph. Neto and Fernando Bernardes started the day by winning their doubles match against Castillo Lopez and Stenger 6-4. In singles play, Upstate tallied three wins versus UNC Wilmington. Arora and Eble captured straight set wins and Ewers was victorious in three sets. Ewers defeated Savarino 4-6, 6-1, 6-0, Arora won against Daniel Groom 7-6, 6-3 and Eble knocked off Andres Torres 7-6, 7-6.

The Spartans open their 2018 spring season on Friday, Jan. 26 at 12 p.m. when they host Eastern Washington.
