Stillwater, Okla. – Morgan Williams led the USC Upstate women's basketball team with a career-high 17 points in Upstate's 108-71 loss to Oklahoma State in non-conference action at Gallagher-Iba Arena on Tuesday night.
Oklahoma State improves to 8-2 overall while Upstate drops to 3-10.
A LOOK AT THE NUMBERS
- Williams surpassed her previous career-high of 15 points which she accomplished against Omaha on Nov. 24.
- Tamera Thorpe finished in double figures with 15 points off the bench and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
- Stillwater native Bailey Wensler scored three points.
- DeNisha Swain scored two points in her first game action since the season-opener on Nov. 10.
- Loryn Goodwin led a quintet of Oklahoma State players in double-figures with 23 points.
- Kaylee Jensen (20 points), Braxtin Miller (14 points) Mandy Coleman (13 points) and Areanna Combs (10 points) each finished in double-figures.
- Oklahoma State scored 28 points off of 20 Upstate turnovers. The Cowgirls had four turnovers which Upstate turned into two points.
- The Cowgirls held a 43-36 edge in rebounds.
FIRST QUARTER BREAKDOWN
- After the Cowgirls scored the first four points of the game, Upstate tied the contest at 5 following an Anda Kuzmina jumper at the 6:14 mark.
- Oklahoma State answered with a 12-2 run for a 17-7 lead following a Jentry Holt basket with 3:40 remaining.
- Diamon Shiflet's 3-pointer with one second left send the Spartans into the second quarter trailing 26-16.
SECOND QUARTER BREAKDOWN
- The front end of two Combs free throws gave the hosts a 33-17 edge with just over eight minutes to play.
- A Thorpe 3-pointer with 5:18 remaining brought Upstate within 10, 38-28.
- The Cowgirls led by 16 points at three different stages late in the quarter.
- Kuzmina's free throw with 10 seconds remaining was the final point of the first half. Oklahoma State led 53-38 at halftime.
THIRD QUARTER BREAKDOWN
- Oklahoma State opened the third quarter on a 9-0 run.
- Williams hit a pair of free throws following the media timeout to make the score 67-45 with 4:16 to play.
- Wensler hit a 3-pointer just before time expired made the score 78-56 at the end of the period.
FOURTH QUARTER BREAKDOWN
- Goodwin gave the Cowgirls a 90-60 advantage on a layup with 6:23 to play.
- LaTashia Jones' layup with 38 seconds remaining served as the final points of the game.
UP NEXT
- The Spartans are off until Dec. 30 when they host N.C. Central at 4:30 p.m.
