Elon, N.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Elon 6-1 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center on Friday. 

Elon improves to 6-3 while Upstate drops to 1-8. 

"We competed against a very good Elon team from top to bottom," head coach Oliver Trittenwein said. "Our goal to compete and fight for every point was achieved." 

Elon claimed the doubles point following a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles and a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles. 

Filippa Ericson claimed Upstate's lone point of the afternoon at No. 3 singles with a win over Olivia Lucas. After dropping the opening set 3-6, Ericson rallied for a 7-6 (10-8) win in the second set and won the match with a 10-8 victory in the third set. 

Taylor Dodd's No. 5 singles match against Alex Koniaev also went to a third set. Dodd lost the first set 6-2 before evening the match with a 7-6 (8-6) win. Koniaev claimed the match with 10-8 win in the third set. 

Upstate returns to action next Saturday at Furman. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
