Spartanburg, S.C. – USC Upstate senior Raven Jefferson posted her second career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds but it wasn't enough as USC Upstate lost 80-50 to Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday at the Hodge Center.
Florida Gulf Coast improves to 22-7 overall and 11-1 in the ASUN while Upstate drops to 9-18 and 2-10.
Jefferson finished in double figures for the 15th consecutive game while her 11 rebounds tie a career-high and are a season-high. Of Jefferson's 11 rebounds, 10 were on the defensive glass. Tamera Thorpe added nine points off the bench.
Florida Gulf Coast had four players finish in double figures, led by Haley Laughter and Rosemarie Julien with 13 points. Jordin Alexander and Jessica Cattani each scored 12 points. Tytionia Adderly finished with 13 rebounds.
Game Breakdown
- The Eagles scored the first four points of the game before a Breanna Jefferson layup got the Spartans on the board at the 7:27 mark. Florida Gulf Coast answered with a 10-0 run for a 16-2 lead at the 4:23 mark. Florida Gulf Coast led 24-10 at the end of the opening quarter.
- Thorpe hit a 3-pointer at the 7:36 mark of the second quarter to pull the Spartans within 15, 28-13. Vanessa Agrusa's free throws with just over six minutes remaining made the score 31-17 in favor of the Eagles. Florida Gulf Coast closed out the first half on a 12-3 run to lead 43-20 at halftime.
- A Laughter 3-pointer opened the third quarter scoring just over 30 seconds into the frame. Jordin Alexander gave FGCU a 53-23 edge at the 5:22 mark before a Bailey Wensler 3-pointer trimmed the lead to 53-26. Florida Gulf Coast led 64-29 following three quarters.
- Mikala McGhee and Coco Ritter traded layups to open the fourth quarter. Florida Gulf Coast led by no fewer than 28 points in the fourth quarter. Jessica Cattani's free throws with 56 seconds left were the final points of the game.

- Florida Gulf Coast finished 32-for-63 (50.8 percent) from the field while Upstate went 17-for-46 (37.0 percent).
- Upstate went 4-for-12 (33 percent) from behind the 3-point line. Florida Gulf Coast finished 8-for-25 from behind the arc.
- The Eagles outscored Upstate 42-20 in the paint.
