Upstate Drops 7-0 Decision at No. 29 South Alabama

Mobile, Ala. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team faced off against one of the best teams in the country on Wednesday afternoon, falling 7-0 against the 29th-ranked South Alabama Jaguars at Lubel Memorial Courts in non-conference action.

Upstate falls to 3-8 on the season while South Alabama improves to 16-2 overall.

The Spartans opened doubles play on a positive note as Ankush Arora and Francisco Neto, playing at No. 3 doubles, defeated Lucas Gonzalez and Olivier Gingras 6-3.

The Jaguars went on to win the doubles point after victories at No. 1 and No. 2. In the No. 1 doubles match, Fernando Bernardes and Ignacio Garrido fell to Juan Cruz Soria and Tuki Jacobs 6-4, while Felix Ewers and Lenhard Haupt fell at No. 2 to Loic Cloes and Pierre Noyon 6-3.

Upstate dropped all six singles matches as South Alabama earned the 7-0 victory. Garrido picked up his opening set 7-6 at the No. 6 spot, but Gonzalez rallied back for the three-set victory after taking the second set 6-4 and third 10-8.

The Spartans close out their four-match road trip in the state of Alabama on Friday morning at 10 a.m. against Lamar in Mobile.
