Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team closed out the 2017 season on a winning note as the Spartans defeated NJIT 4-3 at the USC Upstate Tennis Complex on Saturday morning.

Upstate improves to 3-18 overall and 1-5 in the ASUN Conference while NJIT drops to 7-12 and 3-3.

"This was the first win for the women's team in conference this season and to finish off the regular season this way was amazing," head coach Oliver Trittenwein said. "It was definitely a team effort doubles through singles.

Upstate clinched the doubles point thanks to a 6-4 win by Carol Sigaki and Vale Zarama at the No. 1 position and a 7-6 (8-6) win at No. 2 doubles by Taylor Dodd and Filippa Ericson.

The Spartans claimed the match after winning the top three singles courts. Ericson won at No. 1 singles over Mayar Eltony. Sigaki was a 6-3, 6-4 winner at No. 2 singles while Zarama battled back for a 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 3 singles.
