Jacksonville, Fla. – The USC Upstate men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision on the road in ASUN play Thursday evening to the 66th-ranked North Florida Ospreys at UNF Tennis Courts.
Upstate falls to 5-14 on the season and 1-3 in conference play while North Florida improves to 12-6 overall and 4-0 in the league.
The Ospreys captured the doubles point with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches to take a 1-0 lead over the Spartans. In the No. 3 doubles contest, Ankush Arora and Francisco Neto were trailing Sahil Deshmukh and Jonathan Deautriell 4-3 before the match went unfinished.
North Florida claimed all seven singles matches to earn the victory. Upstate sent two of the matches into the third set at No. 2 and No. 3.
Playing in the No. 2 singles match, Lenhard Haupt dropped his first set against Jefta Kecic, ranked 107th nationally, before taking the second 6-3. The third, and final, set went into extra points with Haupt falling 10-6. Arora also took his No. 3 match versus Yannick Zuern into the third set but would fall 1-6, 6-2, 1-6.
The Spartans play their final road match of the season on Saturday, April 8 at 2 p.m. against Stetson.
