Spartanburg, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team recorded six victories on Friday as the Spartans opened their fall schedule at the USC Upstate Invitational.
In doubles play, Carol Sigaki and Vale Zarama defeated Gardner-Webb's Daniela Naupari and Paula Romero 6-1. Morgan Dodd and Elin Hellberg claimed a 6-4 triumph over Claire Chase and Laine Parker of Gardner-Webb. Noelia Acuna and Gabriela Cevallos dropped their first doubles match but were 7-6 (4) winners over Isabel Fornies and Carlotta Nassi of Queens in the consolation bracket.
Acuna and Zarama were both winners in the Green Singles bracket. Acuna defeated Furman's Hannah Ferrett 6-3, 6-2 while Zarama was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Sandra Bolstad of Gardner-Webb. Sigaki recorded a win in the Black Singles bracket with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Paige Christian of Georgia Southern.
Saturday's action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. with doubles play. Singles action is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
