SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USC Upstate men's basketball team is in route to Virginia Tech for a Wednesday night showdown on the ACC Network, tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
 
The last time these two teams met the Spartans shocked the Hokies on their home court, 64-63. Ty Greene led the way with 17 points, followed by Torrey Craig's 13 points and Ricardo Glenn's 10 points. Jodd Maxey hauled in 10 rebounds during the game. With the victory the all-time series is tied at one game each.
 
USC Upstate (1-2) is coming off a 73-64 loss to North Carolina Central on Monday evening. Sophomore forward Bryson Mozone (North Augusta, S.C.) will try and keep his second half momentum going into the game against Virginia Tech. Mozone scored 15 of his 17 points in the second half against the Eagles on Monday night. Both Nevin Zink (Newton, Conn.) and Josh Aldrich (Wilmington, N.C.) each contributed 10 points in the loss to North Carolina Central.
 
Mozone is one of three Spartans averaging double-digits this season at 11.3 points per game. The Palmetto State native also leads the team in total rebounds (18) and rebounding average (6.0). Everette Hammond (Silver Spring, Md.) leads the team with 12.3 points per game and freshman guard Tommy Bruner (Columbia, S.C.) is the only other player averaging double figures with 10 points per contest.
 
Virginia Tech (2-0) meanwhile is coming off a pair of wins against Clemson and Coppin State. The Hokies came down to the Palmetto State and defeated Clemson 67-60 to open up the season. Virginia Tech held their home opener against Coppin State and registered a 74-42 win to stay perfect on the season. The Spartans are one-of-two Big South opponents the Hokies will face this season, with Gardner-Webb heading to Blacksburg on December 15.
 
Landers Nolley II is currently averaging 20.5 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per contest. Nahiem Alleyne is second on the team with 14.5 points per game and is shooting an even .500 from three-point range this season. Wabissa Bede leads the team in rebounds 8.5 per game and total assists (16).
