GREENVILLE, S.C. – The USC Upstate women's tennis team fell 7-0 earlier today against the Furman Paladins inside the Mickel Tennis Center.
The Spartans top doubles team of
Elin Hellberg and
Maria Jardim dominated Wofford less than 24-hours ago fell 6-2 to the Paladins top duo of Katarina Kozarov and Julia Adams. Fans should note however that Kozarov is ranked No. 30 nationally. At the No. 2 doubles court the Spartans did not fare much better as the duo of
Roberta Armani and
Gabriela Cevallos lost 6-3. Furman (2-2) finished off the doubles sweep with a 6-1 win over USC Upstate's (0-2) No. 3 pairing.
The singles matches proved to be a bit challenging for the Spartans.
Morgan Valentine and Hellberg were swept in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at both the No. 2 and No. 4 singles courts. Both Jardim and Cevallos fared well in their opening sets as they fell 6-3 to their respective opponents. However, both Jardim and Cevallos lost the second set 6-0 and gave the Paladins wins at both the No. 1 and No. 3 singles courts.
Roberta Armani and
Laura Illanes both took games off of their opponents throughout the match, but they were ultimately swept in straight sets.
The USC Upstate women's tennis team will have about two weeks off before they play UT-Chattanooga on Saturday, February 1, 2020.
