Game Notes: USC Upstate, UNC Asheville

Series History
This is the 19th all-time meeting between USC Upstate and UNC Asheville. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series 12-6 and they have won the past five meetings. Last season the Bulldogs swept the season series against USC Upstate, including a 57-53 victory in Spartanburg. Deion Holmes recorded a game high 18-points and Pat Welch contributed 12-points off the bench in the loss. Nevin Zink had a career high 13 rebounds against the Bulldogs last season. USC Upstate will be looking for their first win in the series since the 2012-2013 season.

UPSTATE – The Spartans are coming off a 79-53 loss to Winthrop on Thursday evening. Bryson Mozone led the squad with 14-points off the bench.

UNC Asheville – UNC Asheville in 9-9 overall and 3-4 in Big South competition. The Bulldogs are currently on a two game winning streak with wins over Longwood and Radford. Tajion Jones led the team with 29-points, LJ Thorpe contributed 20-points and DeVon Baker added 15-points in the win.

Ones to watch
UPSTATEBryson Mozone as averaged double-figures off the bench in two consecutive games. Tommy Bruner and Everette Hammond have both had the hot hand of late in the Spartans starting lineup.

UNC Asheville – The Bulldogs entire starting-five averages double-figures this season. Jones leads the team with 16.5 points, followed by Baker with 15.9, Thorpe is third on the team in points (13.1) but leads the team in rebounds (112). Lavar Batts Jr. is averaging 13.0 points per game and has a team high 36 steals on the season. Coty Jude rounds out the starting-five with 10.2 points per game.

UP next for the Spartans
USC Upstate will hit the road this Thursday as the travel to Presbyterian on January 30, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPNU.
 
The Spartans next home game will be against Campbell on Saturday, February 1, 2020. Tip-off is slated for 4:30 p.m. inside the G.B. Hodge Center.
