HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barrett Herring and
Quadijah Moore both scored 12-points to lead the Spartans in scoring on Saturday afternoon, but it was not enough as High Point came away with an 85-46 victory over USC Upstate.
USC Upstate (6-6, 1-2 BSC) came out firing in the opening moments of the game as
Riley Popplewell and
Barrett Herring scorched the nets to give the Spartans a 9-1 lead over High Point (3-9, 1-2 BSC) just three-minutes into the contest. The Panthers countered with an 7-2 run of their own but the Spartans held an 11-8 advantage going into the first media timeout of the contest. High Point ended the quarter on a 16-4 run and the Spartans trailed 24-15 going into the second quarter despite shooting 58 percent from the field.
The second quarter could be compared to a heavy weight prize fight as High Point came out of the quarter break swinging. An 11-5 run in the first five minutes of the quarter gave the Panthers a 35-20 lead but
Quadijah Moore and the Spartans fought back. Moore scored eight points in the second quarter all in the final four minutes of action to spark a 9-4 Spartans run. Going into the halftime break USC Upstate trailed 39-29.
Moore led all scorers at the halftime intermission with 10-points and she recorded a team best three rebounds.
Barrett Herring contributed eight points in the opening half and finished a perfect four-for-four from the field. Camryn Brown led High Point with nine points in the opening half.
In the third quarter of action the Spartans went on a bit of dry spell as High Point went on a 12-4 run to open up the quarter. USC Upstate was forced to call a timeout trailing 51-33 with 3:56 remaining in the period. High Point took a 63-40 lead into the final period of action.
The Spartans scored just six points in the final period of play as High Point won 85-46.
Notes
Upstate – Herring and Moore each had 12-points in the contest to lead the Spartans offense.
Jada Logan had a team high six rebounds and
Brianna Lewis recorded five assists in the loss.
High Point – Four Panthers finished the game in double-figures, Skyler Curran (17 pts), Camryn Brown (16 pts), Callie Scheier (12 pts) and Zaria Wright (11 pts).

The Spartans next game will be against UNC Asheville on Monday, January 6, 2020. Tip-off is set for 6:00 p.m. inside the G.B. Hodge Center.
