Series History
Winthrop holds the all-time edge over USC Upstate in the series 11-9, but the Spartans have won the past two meetings between the two teams. In fact, the Spartans have taken home the victory in their last three visits to Rock Hill. Most recently, Upstate defeated Winthrop 60-57 on the road in the first round of the Hercules Tires Big South Tournament on March 10, 2020 to become the first-ever 10 seed to advance to the conference quarterfinals. The win came after beating the Eagles 66-59 just three days prior in Upstate's regular-season finale on March 7. Riley Popplewell recorded a double-double in both of those games, first hitting 1,000 career points with a 20-point, 17-rebound effort on March 7 followed by 23 points and 17 rebounds on March 10.
