Jacksonville, Fla. – USC Upstate went 1-1 against North Florida and Florida A&M on Friday evening on the opening day of the Jacksonville/University of North Florida Spring Break Challenge.
In the first game of the day USC Upstate (7-2) faced off against former ASUN rival and tournament host North Florida. Entering the bottom of the third inning, the two squads were scoreless North Florida broke the game open with a three-run inning. A two-run fourth inning by the Osprey had the Spartans looking up at a 5-0 deficit. Florida native
Madison Lanoux (Fleming Island, Fla.) drove in a pair of runs to avoid the shutout for the Spartans in the top of the seventh inning.
The Spartan offense awoke with vengeance in the second game of the evening, as USC Upstate scored a minimum of three-runs in every inning on Friday night.
Savannah Brown picked up her third win of the season in a complete game performance in the circle.
Sarah Price (Landrum, S.C.) had a career night with a 6-RBI performance (ties the school record) and recorded her third 4-hit performance of her career.
Bre Cooper and
Marisa Soterakis (Miramar, Fla.) each had 3-for-3 performances at the plate and
Olivia Marshall (Mooresville, N.C.) picked up her first career RBI knock in the victory.
Game 1: USC Upstate 2, North Florida 5
Scoring Breakdown
Bottom 3rd: With two away in the bottom of the third inning, Shannon Glover hit a solo homerun over the left field fence to break the scoreless tie. Paige Pfent walked to keep the inning alive and advanced to third on a Logan Jackson double. Ashley Goebel robed a two-run single up the middle and the Osprey led 3-0.
Bottom 4th: With one out in the bottom of the inning, Glover singled down the left field line to bring in a pair of insurance runs for the Osprey.
Top 7th: Bre Cooper (Massillon, Ohio) doubled to the left center field gap to lead off the inning. With one out in the inning,
Sarah Price (Landrum, S.C.) walked to put a pair of runners on.
Madison Lanoux (Fleming Island, Fla.) doubled down the left filed line to give the Spartans their only runs of the game.

Game 2: USC Upstate 16, Florida A&M 3
Scoring Breakdown
Top 1st: Seriah Brokenborough opened up the scoring with an RBI Single to center field.
Bottom 1st: Bre Cooper singled up the middle to begin the inning and stole second to move into scoring position.
Sarah Price singled up the middle to move Cooper over to third base,
Madison Lanoux roped a two-run single down the left field line to give the Spartans the early lead. Lanoux came around to score on a throwing error by the second baseman.
Bottom 2nd: Savannah Grigsby hit an infield single to begin the inning and advanced to second on a single by
Marisa Soterakis. Both players moved up 60 feet after another fielding error by the Rattlers. Cooper walked to load up the bases and Price smoked a two-run single up the middle to increase the Spartans lead.
Celeste Delorenzo hit an RBI single right field and the Spartans led 6-1. Price crossed home plate after the third fielding error of the inning for the Rattlers to end the scoring for the Spartans.
Top 3rd: Brokenborough hit an RBI ground out giving the Rattlers their second run of the game. Sydnee Worthy hit an RBI single to center field to give Florida A&M their third run of the ball game

Bottom 3rd: Marisa Soterakis hit an infield single to leadoff the inning and stole both second and third base for the Spartans.
Olivia Marshall hit her first career RBI double to right center field to score the eighth run of the evening for the Spartans. Cooper singled to center field and stole second to move put a pair of runners into scoring position.
Sarah Price smacked a two-run single up the middle of the infield and the Spartans led 10-3. A
Peyton Darnell RBI ground out ended the scoring for the Spartans in the bottom of the third.
Bottom 4th: Soterakis hit a one out double to left center field for her third hit of the ball game. A single up the middle by Cooper, setup a two-run single to right field for
Sarah Price. Back-to-back walks by Lanoux and Delorenzo gave Darnell a bases loaded opportunity. A fielding error by the right fielder allowed three Spartan runs to come across the plate.
Notables
Sarah Price set a career high with 6 RBI's against Florida A&M, the sophomore also recorded her third four hit game and recorded four runs on the night.
Marisa Soterakis and
Bre Cooper each had 3-for-3 nights at the plate, Soterakis scored a trio of runs, while Cooper crossed the plate on four different occasions.
Madison Lanoux finished the game with a pair of RBI's and a pair of runs in the game.
Savannah Brown pitched a complete 5.0 inning game and struck out seven players on her way to her third win of the season.
