Series History
The 2021 meeting between Upstate and South Carolina is the fifth consecutive season the two teams have met—comprising all meetings in the Spartans' Division I era—with the Gamecocks holding a 4-0 advantage in the stretch. Last season, the Gamecocks were victorious 2-1 in overtime, claiming their fifth overall victory in the series.

Ones to Watch
Upstate: Redshirt junior forward Mario Arrocha enters Friday's match as the reigning Big South Offensive Player of the Week for his three-point match at Furman last Saturday that included the match-winning goal in the 101^st minute. He and redshirt junior midfielder Paul Bobai tallied three points in the match while redshirt junior forward Javier Torres also added a goal.
 
South Carolina: Scoring the lone goal for the Gamecocks against Coastal Carolina, Jordan Matthews netted his first career goal, becoming the sixth different player to score for South Carolina this season. Peter Clement adding two assists to his lone goal leads the Gamecocks with four points on the year.
 
Next UP for the Spartans
Concluding a four-game road trip, Upstate returns home for the first match in a three-game homestand, hosting crosstown rival Wofford at 7 p.m. ET on September 21.
