Returning to Carolina Country Club for the second straight season to host a 15-team collegiate golf event, USC Upstate men's golf and Wofford have partnered with BMW Charity Golf—the organization that helps produce the Korn Ferry Tour's BMW Pro-Am—for The Carolina Cup supported by Proud Partners Taco Bell and the BMW Performance Center.
Â
For Upstate, the event is a return to action following a nearly two-week hiatus after competing at the Graeme McDowell Invitational. The event saw freshman Elias Becker shine in his collegiate debut as he earned a top-25 finish (t-23rd) en route to winning Big South Freshman of the Week honors.
Â
Becker found himself in the Graeme McDowell Invitational's top 25 throughout the duration of the event, fashioning marks of 75-76-77-228 with his opening-round 75 tying for the lowest single round by a Spartan at the event.
Â
Behind Becker on the Spartans' leaderboard, a pair of Upstate golfers made jumps up the leaderboard with senior Brady Hinkle jumping 16 spots, tying for 46th, and freshman Christophe Palmans jumped nine spots, placing 62nd. Both men posted final-round 75s as Hinkle carded marks of 82-79-75-236 while Palmans wrote in scores of 83-83-75-241.
Â
The Carolina Cup features three days of play beginning Sunday and concluding on Tuesday with 18 holes of play each day. All three days will feature live tournament coverage via GameKast Live with featured windows from 2 to 5 p.m. ET Sunday and Monday and from 12 to 3 p.m. Tuesday.
