Series History 
USC Upstate looks to start the 2022-2023 season strong with a victory over first time opponent, Southern Wesleyan University. Upstate went 22-8 overall while going 14-4 in the Big South earning a first-round bye in the Big South Women's Basketball Championship before falling 62-57 to UNC Asheville. Southern Wesleyan finished the 2021-2022 season 7-21 overall with a 6-18 record in conference play. The Warriors finished season 11th out of 13 teams in Conference Carolinas.  

Upstate and Southern Wesleyan have only matched up once before, which was back in 2015. During that matchup, Upstate downed the Warriors 84-51 in the G.B. Hodge Center

Players to Watch 
Upstate: Head coach Jason Williams has enlisted five freshmen, three sophomores, one junior and four grad students to fight for the Spartans this season. Williams retained AC Markham from last season's roster while bringing in four true freshman and transfers from schools such as Wright State University, Alabama A&M, Arkansas University, Central Michigan, Harcum College, Tampa University, and even Big South opponent Presbyterian College.  
 

Southern Wesleyan: The Warriors return two of their top scorers from last season, junior Brittany Mack and sophomore Tristen Berry. Mack led Southern Wesleyan last season with 304 points, averaging 12.2 points a game with 138 rebounds. Berry sat third on the team with 226 points, averaging 8.1 points a game with 74 rebounds.
