Series History
With a three-game series to start the 2023 season, USC Upstate and Towson are meeting for the first time in the Spartans' Division I era (2007-pres.). The Spartans are 14-7 in the D1 era against the current membership of the Colonial Athletic Association and have four games scheduled against CAA opponents this season. Head Coach Mike McGuire owns a 6-1 all-time record against CAA opponents and his teams have never faced Towson.
 
Players to Watch
Upstate
Pitcher: Taking the ball in game one of the series with Towson, redshirt junior right-hander Reese Dutton will make his USC Upstate debut. He comes to Upstate from Heartland CC where he earned NJCAA Division II Pitcher of the Year and NJCAA First Team All-American honors after posting a 10-0 record with a 1.51 ERA. He struck out 91 batters over 65.2 innings in 2022, recording a 12.47 strikeouts per nine innings total.
 
Position Player: Entering the 2023 season, the Spartans return two players who earned All-Conference honors last season in redshirt junior infielder Noah Rabon and sophomore utility player Noah Sullivan. Rabon garnered First Team All-Big South honors after hitting .307 and stealing 17 bases while Sullivan earned Big South Freshman of the Year honors, posting a .303 average at the plate and a 6-0 record on the mound.
 
Towson
Pitcher: After making 29 appearances out of the bullpen for the Tigers last season, righty Cam Clark returns to anchor the Towson bullpen. Over 34.0 innings, he pitched to a 2-0 record and 3.18 ERA while striking out 17 hitters. He also picked up two saves for the Tigers and gave up a .240 opponent's batting average.
 
Position Player: One of four Tigers to play 50 or more games last season, outfielder Elijah Dickerson to head the Towson lineup. He returns after starting all 51 games he played in last season, crafting a .262 batting average, tying for the team lead with 10 home runs—he led Towson with 25 extra-base hits. He also paced the Tigers in hits and RBI, collecting 49 hits and driving home 42 runs.

Hitting the road for the first time in the 2023 season, the Spartans travel to Jacksonville for a two-game midweek series at North Florida. The series begins Tuesday at 6 p.m. ET before wrapping Wednesday at 3 p.m.
