SPARTANBURG, S.C. - After a few weeks of rest and relaxation, your Spartans are back at it in Charlotte to kick off the 2023 outdoor track and field season.
Friday and Saturday's Meet
The USC Upstate Men's and Women's track and field teams are participating in the 49er classic in Charlotte for the third year in a row since the meet was canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19.
Rachel Davis, Jessa Beach, Sommer Goodman, Sierra St. John and Jamaiya Jackson will be the first Spartans to see action in the outdoor season as events get started Friday at 11:00 A.M.

Event Preview
The Spartans return to action after having a strong finish to their indoor season. Channing Ferguson became a Big South Champion after taking first place in the long jump while Rachel Davis broke her own school record in the women's weight throw.
Coincidentally, both of those Spartans set school records in the first meet of the indoor season in December. They and the rest of the USC Upstate track and field teams will work to have an equally strong start to the outdoor season this weekend.

Up Next for The Spartans
A quick turn around as the outdoor season gets underway awaits your Spartans after the 49er Classic. They'll head to Rock Hill for the first of two times this season. The Winthrop Invite runs March 24-25 and the Big South Outdoor Championships will also be held in Rock Hill in May.
