EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman thrower
Joshua Sterling competed in the USATF U20 outdoor Championships yesterday.
In a competitive field for men's discus, Sterling finished 17th. His throw of 52.21m was just shy of his personal best and ranks third all-time in school history.
Throws coach JC Suddeth said, "It was a great accomplishment for Joshua to qualify for U-20s. Track Town (Eugene, Oregon) is a dream to a lot of track and field athletes, and he was one of 20 or so athletes that qualified for discus. He got to experience what it is like to compete in the same location as NCAA Nationals and the previous location of the Olympic Trials. One of his goals is to compete at NCAA Nationals, and this was a good learning experience for him to see what it's like to compete on a big stage. I am proud of his achievements so far and I'm excited to see what the rest of his throwing career has in store."
