SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The USC Upstate track and field team is hitting the final leg of their 2023 outdoor season and are taking a short trip to Columbia for the USC Open.
Event Preview
The Spartans will be competing in a crowded and tightly contested meet Saturday as 45 teams are expected to compete, not including unattached athletes. There will be opportunities to see how the Spartans stack up against their Big South competition as Campbell, Gardner-Webb, and Winthrop are competing in the meet.
A female competitor has earned two first-place finishes the last two meets in a row as Brooke Ferguson took first in both the 100m hurdles and the high jump during the Winthrop/Adidas Invitational. Jessa Beach followed that up by taking first place in the discus and hammer throws during the Newberry Hub City Invitational. The Spartans will have plenty of opportunities to make it three meets in a row.
Saturday's Meet
The Spartans have competed in the USC Open every year since the meet returned following a hiatus due to Covid-19 in 2020. When the Spartans made the trip to Columbia last year, Allison Baker took first place in the women's 3000M steeple and ZoRyan Hendricks set a school record in the 110M hurdles.
