SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The USC Upstate Spartans had a tremendous showing during a torrential downpour in the Newberry Hub City Invitational, culminating in a dominant first-place finish for the men's team with 107 points on the day and a strong fourth place finish for the women's team. 

While the first events were relatively weather free, that certainly was not the case for the last half of a day that saw a handful of events cancel.  

The men's team took three first place finishes on the day, with Noah White, Jordan Givens, and Carter Sexton all taking top spots in their events. In his first collegiate outdoor action, White took first place for the Spartans in the men's 3000m, the team's first event of the day. White was the only athlete to finish sub-9:10 (9:06). Givens earned the top spot in the men's 400m and was closely followed by fellow Spartan Bryan Enck, who added a top-five finish to the total. Carter Sexton took first place in the 1500m and took home a top-five finish for his efforts in the 800m. 

As for the women's team, Jessa Beach took two separate first-place finishes in the women's discus and the women's hammer. This is the second meet in a row in which a member of the women's track and field team has earned two top finishes as Brooke Ferguson took first in both the women's high jump and the 100m hurdles in Rock Hill two weeks ago. Allie Leavitt and Deashja Franklin were the next highest finishers for the Spartans as they took second in the 1500m and the 100m hurdles respectively.
