SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- A Spartan is still standing as Channing Ferguson heads to the East Prelims to compete in the high jump for the second season in a row.
Event Preview
Ferguson will be shoulder to shoulder with 47 of the best high jumpers in the Eastern region, with clears ranging from 2.07M (6'9.5") to 2.25M (7'4.5"). The Spartan from Rock Hill will be competing in the second of two flights scheduled for Friday, May 26.
At the moment, Ferguson is tied for 13th thanks to his school record setting clear of 2.16M with 15 athletes either tied or ahead of him in the standings. During the USC Open where he achieved that mark, the Sophomore nearly cleared 2.19M and has seen that bar before.
The top twelve performers in each region will earn the right to compete at Nationals in Austin, Texas and a clear of 2.19M would tie Ferguson at tenth place in the region and fourteenth nationally.
Friday's Competition
The East Prelims began Wednesday, but Ferguson will not compete until roughly 2:30 P.M. ET.
