Upstate Softball Wraps Up Jane B. Moore Memorial Tournament With 8-4 Loss to #25 Auburn

AUBURN, ALA. - USC Upstate softball finished the Jane B. Moore Memorial Tournament on Sunday afternoon with a late 8-4 loss to #25 Auburn.

Similar to Saturday's night game, Auburn got on the board first with a single that scored two runs. Upstate was quick to respond in the top of the second as Abigail Pippen hit her first homerun in a Spartan uniform. Pippen's whack over left field sent pinch runner Lex Difato running home and tied the game 2-2. With two away in the second inning, Cassie Norris gave Upstate a one-run lead after hitting her second homerun of the season over right field. The Spartans extended their lead to two-runs in the top of the third after Carson Shaw's time at bat gave Denver Lauer enough time to reach home. After a scoreless fourth inning for both teams, Auburn was able to get one run in the fifth and sixth innings respectively to tie the game 4-4 going into the seventh inning. With the bases loaded, Auburn hit a homerun over left center to finish the game with Upstate leaving Alabama with an 8-4 loss. Lauer (3) and Norris (2) both had a multi-hit game while trying to help Upstate down the SEC opponent. Pippen had her first multi-RBI game of the season with two, while keeping her hitting streak alive with hits in each of the last three contests.

Sierra Maness made her ninth start of the season in the Spartans' Sunday afternoon rematch against the ranked Tigers. Maness struck out two Tigers and had 101 pitches in her 6.0 innings in the circle.

For their efforts this weekend, Denver Lauer, Abigail Pippen, and Carson Shaw were named to the Jane B. Moore Memorial All-Tournament Team.
