LEXINGTON, Va. – The USC Upstate track and field team traveled to the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) to resume the indoor season, competing in the two-day VMI Invitational. Competing against 29 other teams, 33 Spartans set new personal bests, along with 27 top-ten finishes.
Day One:
Friday was highlighted by the throwers, which included
Jessa Beach securing a first-place finish in the women's weight throw with a distance of 17.81m, ranking her second all-time in school history. Close behind was
Rachel Davis, finishing in second place with a distance of 17.76m. On the men's side,
Gabriel Walker earned first place in the weight throw with a distance of 17.95m, moving him to third all-time in school history.
Day Two:
Sam Shimanskiy led the way for the Spartans on Saturday, earning a first-place finish in the men's mile with a time of 4:16.46, ranking him third all-time in school history. In women's shot put,
Rachel Davis finished second with her throw of 13.93m, setting a school record. The men's 4x400m relay team of
Jonathan Hairston,
Adrian Wilmot,Khalif Walston, and
Shriyaan Krishnaraj earned second place.
