LEXINGTON, Va. – Making the first of two trips to VMI, USC Upstate track and field competed in the VMI Invitational today. This meet was team-scored with the men taking first place, totaling 179 points, and the women finishing second with 80.5 points.

The teams combined for 41 different top performances and 40 new personal bests.

On the men's side, Xavier Stone earned first place in the triple jump with his distance of 15.27m, a new school record. Collin Bui-Hayes and Josh Gillis were the other Spartans to break school records with times of 6.75 in the 60m and 4:12.63 in the mile, respectively.

Taylor Thomas placed first in women's shot put, throwing 13.53m. Sofia Strom also earned an event win in the women's 5000m with a time of 20:43.77.
