Baseball's Jacob Kirby Captures Second Straight Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week Honor After Two Straight Scoreless Outings

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Adding another pair of scoreless outings, giving him four on the year, USC Upstate baseball's Jacob Kirby captured his second straight Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week, as the league announced its weekly award winners Monday.

Kirby, a Waxhaw, N.C. native, worked 5.0 scoreless innings for the Spartans in appearances against Stetson and Georgia Southern, allowing two hits and five total baserunners while striking out three hitters. In his first appearance against Stetson, he tossed 3.0 innings, permitting one hit and no runs with two strikeouts. Against Georgia Southern, he worked another two scoreless innings, permitting one hit and recording a strikeout.

Winning Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week honors in consecutive weeks, Kirby is the first Spartan since Jake Cubbler on April 1 and April 8, 2024, to earn the honor in back-to-back weeks. He's the fifth Spartan to earn multiple Big South Relief Pitcher of the Week honors in the same season, joining Cubbler (2024), Kevin Davis (2021), Austin Morgan (2022), and Will Wheeler (2019).
