AUBURN, Ala. – The USC Upstate women's basketball team (0-6) dropped a 75-34 decision on the road at Auburn (4-1) today.

Upstate was led by junior Tee'Ara Copney (Asheville, N.C.) with 19 points and five rebounds. Sophomore Madisen Webb (Georgetown, Ky.) contributed seven points and three boards, while junior Hannah Ohl (Danville, Ill.) and freshman Shelby Hicks (Greeneville, Tenn.) each snagged four rebounds. Hicks also had two assists, while junior Tyra Smith (Lawrenceville, Ga.) dished out three.

"We were pretty much outmanned in every area," said Upstate head coach Tammy George. "We just got out-played. They are much bigger, stronger and faster than we are. I didn't feel like we came out ready to go. We kind of got a little lackadaisical in our zone and then got really going and hit some big shots. We just have to get more consistent. We have a lot of new kids. We have just got to get day in and day out more consistent doing the little things. Not here, there, not for five minutes in the game. Just get more consistent."

Auburn was led by a quartet of shooters, scoring double-digits. Blanche Alverson put up a team-high 14 points for the Tigers, while Chantel Hilliard and Hasina Muhammad each recorded 12 points. Morgan Jennings rounded out the double-figure scoring for AU with 10 points. Parrisha Simmons grabbed a game-high 10 boards for the Tigers, while Najat Ouardad handed out eight assists to go along with seven points.

AU outrebounded Upstate 51-31, while the Spartans turned the ball over 22 times compared to the Tigers' 14 turnovers. Upstate shot 25.5 percent from the floor, while Auburn was 42.3 from the floor. AU went 42.1 percent from three-point range, while Upstate shot 20.0 percent from behind the arc.

"I just think we have to get better on both ends, especially rebounding because we are not big and we are out manned a lot as you could see today," Copney said. "So I just think rebounding and everything will probably be our best thing to do. We just need to work on that. Once that happens a lot of things will start carrying over."

This was the first meeting between the two teams. Auburn was the second Southeastern Conference foe the Spartans faced this season. Upstate posted an 88-42 loss at Vanderbilt Nov. 16.

The 0-6 start marks the first time the Spartans have dropped their first six contests of the season since the 2001-02 campaign, when they started the year 0-7. That season Upstate opened the season with a 72-67 loss to North Greenville Nov. 16, 2001. In this year's season-opener, the Spartans dropped a 75-57 decision to the Crusaders at the Hodge Center Nov. 11. This is the first time under head coach Tammy George that the Spartans have posted a 0-6 record to start the season.
