Wallace, N.C. – USC Upstate freshman and Gaffney, S.C., native Adam Goins fired his third-straight solid round, but the Spartans could not make up any ground and finished 14th in the River Landing Intercollegiate hosted by East Carolina at River Landing Country Club Saturday afternoon.
Goins shot a 74 to finish the 54-hole tournament with rounds of 73, 73 and 74 for a 220 total. He was the low Spartan in the tournament, finishing tied for 33rd.
Upstate finished the tournament with a 307 on Saturday and a tournament total of 912 to finish 14th.
East Carolina shot a 280 to win the team championship with an 841 total. Liberty finished second at 844 and was followed by Memphis (848), UNC Wilmington (856), North Carolina State (859), Lamar (864), Virginia (870), Jacksonville (880), St. John's (881), Winthrop (887), Maryland (888), Old Dominion (894), Seton Hall (899), and Upstate (912).
After posting two-straight rounds of 76, Tyler Comer (Pacolet Mills, S.C.) lowered his score to a 74 on Saturday. He finished tied for 59th in the tournament as the second-lowest Spartan. Nelson Dickson turned in the third-lowest score on the day, carding a 79. Matthew Hopper finished the tournament with an 80 on Saturday, while Brad Sill came in with an 81.
UNC Wilmington's Josh Brock led the tournament from wire-to-wire, turning in a 68 on Saturday to win with a 15-under-par total.
Upstate will take one day off before starting play at the Coca-Cola Wofford Invitational Monday morning at the Country Club of Spartanburg in the final tune-up before the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships.
