Spartanburg, S.C. – Dylan Parker earned his first career win and lead the USC Upstate baseball team to a 2-1 victory over College of Charleston in non-conference action Wednesday night from Harley Park.

Parker, whose previous career-high was 6.1 innings, pitched a complete game and allowed just one run on 12 hits to go along with two strikeouts. Parker is the second Upstate hurler to throw a complete game this season, as southpaw David Roseboom pitched the first one of the season March 29 against Lipscomb.

College of Charleston starter Tyler Thornton (1-4) took the loss after giving up two runs on four hits in four innings on the hill.

Upstate opened the second inning with three consecutive hits on its way to plating a pair of runs. Catcher Luke Weber started the frame with an infield single to the shortstop and came around to score when Daniel Seeba laced a double into the right-center field gap. Stephen Dowling followed with a single through the right side that allowed Seeba to advance to third. AJ Mackey capped the scoring by driving in Seeba with a sacrifice fly to right.

College of Charleston cut the Upstate lead in half with a run in the seventh inning on an RBI single from first baseman Carl Wise. Devon Reed started the inning with a single to right and moved to second two batters later on a single by Gunnar Heidt. After Wise's single to left put runners on first and second, Parker managed to limit the damage any further by inducing Brandon Glazer to hit into an inning-ending double play.

The Cougars threatened again in the eighth inning with runners on first and second with one out, but Parker retired Alex Pastorius with a double play on the infield to preserve the lead for Upstate. Parker would go on to retire the side in order in the ninth inning to help Upstate to its second straight victory.

Seeba finished 2-for-3 with one RBI and one run scored, while Brian Thompson, Weber and Dowling each registered one hit apiece.

Upstate returns to the diamond Friday at 3 p.m. when the Spartans travel to Highland Heights, Ky., to begin a three-game series with Northern Kentucky.
