Series History
This is the 15th all-time meeting between USC Upstate and Charleston Southern dating back to the 1979-1980 season. The Spartans won the initial meeting 70-59 inside the G.B. Hodge Center on December 8, 1979. The Spartans hold a 9-5 overall record in the series and a 5-1 home record against the Buccaneers. However, Charleston Southern is currently riding a three-game winning streak in the series. The Buccaneers won all three meetings last season including a Big South Tournament First Round win. This will be the fourth meeting in the 2019 calendar year between the two squads.

UPSTATE – USC Upstate is coming off a 71-49 win over Bob Jones on December 19.
Michaela Gibbons (Troutman, N.C.) made five three-point field goals to lead the team in scoring with 17 points,
Brianna Lewis (Chicago, Ill.) recorded her second double-double (12 points, 10 assists) of the season and
Quadijah Moore (Greenwood, S.C.) added 10 points off the bench for USC Upstate. Senior forward
Riley Popplewell (Union Mills, Ind.) registered her 800
th career point in the win and had a team high 10 rebounds in the victory.
Charleston Southern – Charleston Southern is coming off a 79-70 loss to the College of Charleston on Friday, December 20th. The Buccaneers are 2-7 on the season with their only wins coming against Virginia-Lynchburg and Columbia College (S.C.). Charleston Southern lost six consecutive games to start out the season.

Riley Popplewell leads the team in rebounds with almost seven boards per game.

Charleston Southern – A trio of Buccaneers are currently averaging double-digit points. Tierra
Steede (20.5), Sharita Godfrey (11.2), Carmella Walker (10.9). Steede has only played in two-games this season. Godfrey is also leading the team in rebounds
(6.9) and steals (18).
